Concrete Parking Decks
Power Brooms
A Skidsteer with a power broom quickly moves a light snow off the parking deck. It is also used as a final snow removal pass before the deicing takes place. Poly Edge or Rubber Edge Blades Snows over two inches are plowed with poly edge or rubber edge blades to preserve the membranes, expansion joints, and reduce scraping and concrete chipping. Metal blades are not recommended due to the damage caused by metal rubbing on concrete. Skidsteer loaders are preferred over pick up trucks because they exert downward pressure on the blades which removes snow down to the pavement. Concrete Sidewalks and Pedestrian Walkways Walks, crosswalks and personnel doors require constant attention. The amount of foot traffic directly affects the extent of insurance liability risk. The key is to treat walks quickly and to keep them clear throughout the snow event while preserving the integrity of the concrete. Walks are challenging do to the large amount of hand labor that is required to maintain them. That is why our sidewalk crews work independently of our plow and salting crews. They arrive in their own trucks and carry their own equipment. ATV with Deicer Spreader and Plow ATVs are used to quickly spread deicers on sidewalks at large facilities with wide sidewalks. Special deicer guards were developed to control the spread area of the deicer. This minimizes incidental bounce off onto grass and vegetation which in turn reduces sod damage. Plows on the front can plow walks 4 foot wide during heavy snowfalls. Magnesium Chloride is our preferred deicer on concrete walks. It is easier on vegetation and concrete. Even though much less expensive, rock salt should never be used concrete walks.
Storage Containers
When a property requires it, deicer and tools are stored on-site allowing for the quickest response. These containers are stocked with deicer, snow blowers, fuel, shovels and salt spreaders so that the sidewalk crew has plenty of back-up materials on hand. Containers are restocked after each storm.
